Congratulations Hüseyin (hsyns_astro on Instagram) for winning our September Image of the Month Competition!

The Crab Nebula is a supernova remnant in the constellation of Taurus. The common name comes from William Parsons, 3rd Earl of Rosse, who observed the object in 1840 using a 36-inch telescope and produced a drawing that looked somewhat like a crab.

Corresponding to a bright supernova recorded by Chinese astronomers in 1054, the nebula was discovered earlier by English astronomer John Bevis in 1731. The nebula was the first astronomical object identified corresponding to a historical supernova explosion.

I searched through the data archive of @schoolsobs they had a 4 year archive (in RGB) of Messier 1.

If you take a close look you can see the "S" shape created by the rotation of pulsar.

Hüseyin has also produced an amazing 4 year time-lapse video commenting "Since [the] pulsar rotates 30 times in one second, effects of it can be observable with visible light!"
