Once again we welcomed 14 A-Level students to the Astrophysics Research Institute (ARI) for the 2016 Work Experience Week. The program is designed to give the students a chance to undertake a research project and experience exactly what working in astrophysics involves, whilst also giving them a taste of life at university.

The week began with students attending a number of workshops during Monday and Tuesday, where they were able to learn how to use LTImage and manipulate telescope observations and scientific data. This was preparation for the rest of the week, where they were expected to research a topic and utilise real data. They were then required to produce a written report and to present their conclusions to the rest of the group and field questions from the ARI staff…daunting to say the least! However, despite the magnitude of the task, every group performed admirably and produced some fantastic work.

The week ended with prizes and certificates being awarded to the students and the staff heading home thoroughly exhausted but immensely proud of 14 incredible young people. We wish you all the very best for your futures, and thank you for making this year’s Work Experience Week so fantastic!
